Effects of San-yu-tang on the Cycloheximide-induced Amnesia in Rats

چکیده
The effects of San-Yu-Tang (SYT) on cycloheximide (CXM)-induced amnesia were assessed by passive avoidance in rats. Oral SYT administration (0.5 or 1 g/kg for 1 week) significantly prolonged step-through latency in the amnesic animals. This beneficial effect of SYT on CXM-induced amnesia was enhanced by 8-OH-DPAT (a partial agonist of the 5-HT1A receptor), but reduced by scopolamine (a muscarinic antagonist) and p-chloroamphetamine (a 5-HT releaser) and baclofen (a GAGAB receptor antagonist). These results suggest that SYT enhances memory functions in amnesic rats, at least in part, by increasing the activity of the muscarinic and GABAB receptors, and decreasing the activity of the serotoninergic system.

The Effect of Intra-ventral Tegmental Area Injection of Ghrelin on Morphine-Induced Amnesia in Male Rats: An Experimental Study
Background and Objectives: Extensive evidence shows that morphine impairs cognitive functions. On the other hand, ghrelin is a gastrointestinal hormone that affects learning and memory process. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the effect of intra-ventral tegmental area (VTA) injection of ghrelin on morphine-induced amnesia in male rats. Materials and Methods: In this experiment...
متن کاملA study of the effect of Ginkgo biloba extract on MK801 induced forgetfulness in rats
Introduction: Many people with amnesia would like to try herbal therapies. Ginkgo biloba is one of the most popular herbs which is used to treat amnesia. The beneficial effects of this plant, however, has not been scientifically assessed yet. Although, there have been some reports on the memory enhancement effect of Ginkgo biloba, the mechanism of its action is not yet explained well. Consi...
متن کاملThe Effect of Intrahippocampal Injection of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 on Morphine-Induced Amnesia in Wistar Rats
Background: Morphine is wildly used as a painkiller in clinics, but causes several side effects such as hyperalgesia, depression and more notably amnesia. Here, we assumed that insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) as a peptide with widespread distribution of receptors in brain regions, especially hippocampus, might be capable to alleviate morphine-induced amnesia. Meth...
متن کاملA Comparison of the Effects of State and Non-State Reminder Treatments on Morphine State-Dependency and Cycloheximide-Induced Retrograde Amnesia in Rats
The modified state dependent retention (MSDR) theory of retrograde amnesia (RA) proposes that the forgetting associated with RA is due to retrieval failure brought about by state dependent memory loss, which is forgetting that occurs when memory recall is attempted in a pharmacological state that differs from the encoding state. In a novel test of the MSDR theory, the current study attempted to...
متن کاملInvolvement of Median Septum Region in Ghrelin Effects on Morphine-Induced Memory Impairment in Passive Avoidance Learning
Background and purpose: Many studies have reported the effect of morphine on memory impairment. Evidence suggests that ghrelin enhances memory consolidation. The median septum also has a major role in memory and learning mechanisms. The present study aimed at investigating the role of median septum on the effects of ghrelin in morphine-induced amnesia. Materials and methods: In this experiment...
